Tsukiji – Tokyo Trip 2014 – 築地
Hi :) I had a great time in Japan and today I’d like to share with you my first few days in Tokyo and Osaka.
こんにちは^^ 今回は日本旅行の最初の数日間の様子をシェアしようと思います。
On the first day, Joe and I went Tsukiji. There are 2 markets in Tsukiji. One is 築地場内 / Tukiji Jyounai (inside of the Tsukiji fish market), and the other one is 築地場外 / Tsukiji Jyougai (outside of the Tsukiji fish marker) It’s located side by side.

【築地場内 / Tukiji Jyounai】 (inside of the Tsukiji fish market)
- There are many shops and restaurants, but some of the restaurants are very popular, so you may have to wait in line to enter.
- Tourist can shop there but they have to buy bigger portions since shops there mainly sell to businesses.
- The floor is very wet. It is better to wear comfortable waterproof shoes.
- They hold the tuna auction but limit spectators 120 people a day.
- 築地場内には沢山のお店やレストランがありますが、中にはとても有名な人気店の為、長い行列を待つ事もしばしばあるかと思います。
- セリは120人先着順で見学が出来る様です。(詳しくはこちらをご覧下さい。)
- 場内で販売されいている商品は、私のような一般の観光客でも購入する事が可能ですが、基本お店の方用の商品の為、ある程度の最低量を購入する必要があります。
- あと足場がとてもぬれているので、歩き易くて、多少汚れてもいい靴で行った方がいいと思います。
【築地場外 / Tukiji Jougai】(outside of the Tsukiji fish market)
This place is more for tourists. I visited this market in the video. There are many shops and restaurants in this area, but usually shops here open later than the one inside of the Tsukiji market (Tsukiji Jyounai).
築地場外はどちらかというと観光客の方用なので、比較的少量から商品を購入する事が可能です。美味しいお店も沢山ありますよ。場内に比べて遅く迄開いているお店が多いです。
Here are the things we ate at Tsukiji Jyougai (outside).
【Kitsuneya】(きつねや) – offal, beef, rice bowl shop.
Horumon-don (800 JPY)
It’s a really old restaurant. It serves a very famous offal rice bowl (Horumon-don / ホルモン丼) that was very tasty, hot, rich and it has a nice umami flavor from the meat and miso-based sauce. :) The shop is very tiny and only has four or five counter seat and some standing tables.
昔からある老舗のホルモン丼やさんです。有名なホルモン丼は熱々で,濃厚,ホルモンの旨味がたっぷりでした。ホルモンと聞くと匂いがきついのでは？と思う方もいるかもしれませんが、こちらの丼は臭みもなくとっても美味しかったです。お店はとっても小さくて、カウンターが数席と後は立って食べる様のスタンドがあります。
If you are an adventurous eater, you should try! FYI: On the same street, there is a ramen restaurant called Inoue (井上). It’s also a famous shop in the Tsukiji area. If you are not too crazy about offal, you may prefer this ramen shop :)
ホルモン好きの方にはとってもオススメのお店です^^ ちなみに同じ通りに井上という有名な老舗のラーメン屋さんがあります。もしホルモン系が苦手な方は井上さんに行ってみてもいいかもしれません。
【Syouro】(松露) – egg omelet shop
This used to be a sushi restaurant and about 60 years ago, it changed to an egg omelet shop. The omelets are sweet and have a nice dashi flavor. We met the owner and he was very friendly, nice guy :) :) :)
老舗の卵焼き屋さんですで都内のデパ地下にも入っている様です。甘い卵焼きがとっても美味しかったです。偶然いらっしゃったオーナーの方もとってもフレンドリーで、とっても楽しかったです。
【Yama Chou】(築地 山長) – egg omelet shop
Another egg omelet shop. It was also delicious :9
こちらはまた別の卵焼き屋さんです。上にのっている大根が美味しかったです。
【Sea Urchin Bun】(関門うにまん)
It’s a black ash bun stuffed with seafood and topped with fresh sea urchin. I was skeptical about it but it turned out to be one of Joe’s favorite snacks in Tokyo :)!
最初パット見た時は、どんな味なんだろうと。若干心配しながら注文しましたが、とっても美味しかったです。東京旅行中、ジョーがお気に入りの食べ物の一つになりました。来年もまた食べに来たいと思います。

***Non-alcoholic Cocktail ( I loved :)! )***
Sur Une Plage…Coconut + Chardonnay Reduction Syrup, Vanilla, Fresh Lemon Juice, and Sparkling Water.
I loved this drink♡ I finished it so quickly and then ordered another one! It was sooo yummy I forgot to take a picture :( It was slightly sweet and had a very unique flavor. It was refreshing because of the fresh lemon. A perfect summer drink.
ノンアルコールのカクテル(ココナッツ+ シャルドネシロップ, バニラ, レモンジュース, スパークリングウォーター)をまず最初に頂きましたが、めちゃんこ美味しかったです。凄い勢いでのんで、おかわりも注文したのに、写真を撮るのを忘れました＞＜ ほんのりした甘さと、ワインのユニークな味が癖になります。レモンが入る事ですっきりした後味になるので、夏にはピッタリのドリンクだと思います。
***Main Dishes***
- Beer battered halloumi, zucchini and potato pancake, smashed peas, mint yogurt, and lemon balm (Joe’s favorite)
- Raw zucchini linguini with mint and walnut pesto, arugula, grape tomatoes, lemon zest, and pine nuts (GF/RAW/V) (My favorite)
- Papardelle pasta with chanterelle mushrooms, sweet corn garlic, and basil (V/GFoption)
Joe liked the halloumi cheese. It’s slightly harder than mozzarella cheese but milder in flavor. I liked the zoodles because they were well seasoned and much better then the zoodles I made. Mint was a very good accent for this dish.
ジョーはハルミチーズが好きでした。モッツアレラチーズより少し固めですが、あまり癖のないチーズでした。私はズードルが一番好きでした。私が以前作ったズードルよりも遥かに美味しかったです。ミントのアクセントが良い感じでした。
My zoodles were cooked but their vision was raw. 私のズードルは火を通しましたが、お店の物は生のズッキーニを使用していました。

Joe and I both agreed their desserts were a little too unique for us, maybe because we don’t usually eat vegand dessert or desserts with veggie ingredients. It was still a fun experience though.
普段あまり、ヴィーガンやお野菜を使用したデザートを食べなれていないので、デザートは私達にはちょっとユニーク過ぎましたが、面白かったです。カシューナッツの味がチーズに近いと言えば、近い様な…でもやっぱりチーズとは何か違う味の様な…不思議な感じがしました。
Joe enjoys the desserts. ジョーが悲しそうにデザートを食べる様子。
Overall we enjoyed the meal and I’d love to go back for the non-alcocholic cocktail, Sur Une Plage.
